Very proud of the work my T-Line team, along with Buck Barton’s Tower team, GC and Helicopter Operations accomplish together on a daily basis! To our 1245 internal crews and contract partners working together safely, in the field: You have my respect and admiration. You definitely deserve to be considered “The Most Qualified”. Thank you all for staying safe, making T-Line successful and for making my job so enjoyable!

From Orphanage to Success: A Lineman's JourneyAs I reflect on the path that has led me to where I am today, I can't help but marvel at life's twists and turns. My story begins in the Pentecostal Orphanage in the heart of Appalachia, where uncertainty and hardship were constant companions during my formative years. At 16, I made the decision to leave the orphanage behind and seek emancipation. With nowhere else to turn, I found myself working multiple jobs and couch surfing, determined to carve out a better future. Despite the challenges, I remained steadfast in pursuit of my dreams.Realizing the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty, I earned my GED at 17 and eagerly enrolled in college, hungry for knowledge and determined to defy the odds. However, instability forced me to drop out, highlighting the harsh reality of not having a stable home.Fate had other plans. Finding my calling as an electric utility lineman, I embraced the challenges and thrived in a career that demanded strength, resilience, and trust. Climbing the ranks within the industry, I eventually landed a leadership position at PG&E, a moment of immense pride and accomplishment.Amidst the achievements, one title stands above all: father. My son, Army Sergeant Timothy Staton, epitomizes everything I've fought for. Witnessing his leadership role in guarding and transporting the trophies at the 150th Kentucky Derby filled me with indescribable pride and joy.As I journey through life, I'm reminded of the importance of celebrating those who make it worthwhile. Every milestone, whether small or monumental, deserves recognition and celebration.Reflecting on my journey, I'm filled with gratitude for the love and support I've received along the way. Despite the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I seized the opportunity to return to college, graduating the same week as the Kentucky Derby with the full support of my PG&E leadership. It's a testament to seizing opportunities and appreciating those who've helped me along the way.

As the Superintendent of North Coast, I've found immense fulfillment in overseeing operations characterized by safety, efficiency, high morale, and exceptional team performance. Credit goes to Ahmad and our former VP, Dave Gabbard, for their pivotal roles in rebuilding and driving a top-tier program that we all take pride in being associated with.

I am immensely proud of my team's dedication and expertise in safely maintaining powerlines. From utilizing massive trucks, helicopters, and off-road vehicles to mastering complicated tools, the North Coast and Bay Area teams consistently solve challenges while prioritizing safety for themselves and the public. Their resilience shines through as they brave various weather conditions, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply. Witnessing their exceptional work firsthand during field visits is truly the highlight of my role.

The Holiday Season is upon us. “The most wonderful time of the year “. But with it, comes lots of stressors—emotional, physical and financial demands that challenge and/or threaten our mental health. Another factor, the workload we take on when our coworkers take much needed vacations. It’s the perfect storm of our work & life stress coming together. If not kept in check, the stress can overwhelm us. Check with your teams, how are they doing? Take care of yourselves- call a friend if you need to vent, utilize your EAP, take a break, don’t be afraid to say no…. And If you are struggling with thoughts of suicide or worried about a friend or loved one, call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 for free, confidential emotional support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I started this morning reflecting on the past month or so: From interviewing and filling my open positions in the Bay Area, to patrolling up to our northern most substation—what a great quarter it has already been! If I took the time to expand on the outstanding individuals I get to work with daily or the natural beauty of the North Coast region, this post would quickly turn into a book. I will just sum it up with this—It sounds cliche, but when you truly love your team, community and what you do, you look forward to going to work everyday. I wouldn’t trade this moment in my career for anything.

Life Surge was a mix of fantastic speakers delivering uplifting messsges, and a great networking opportunity. Meeting Nick V, Tim Tebow, & Willie Robertson was pretty cool too.
