She was a sewing machine operator for the former Phoenix Clothes, Allentown and Cross Country Clothes, for 30 years, retiring in '1977. Born in Phillipsburg, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Manfredo a and Rose (Labue) Piazza. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Whitehall. Survivors: Son, Richard J. Shook Jr.

and his wife, Joan of Bath; sisters, Sarah, wife of Robert Byrne, Jean Shelson, Rose, wife of Henry Gambello, all of Phillipsburg; three grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren. Prior to their move to Moravian Village, they lived at 439 High Street in Bethlehem for 53 years. Born in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late Lee and Meredith (Purdy) Barthold. He lived in Bethlehem as a child, attending Calypso and Nitschmann Schools, then moved to Massachusetts during pre-war years, attending Thayer Academy and Newton High Schools.

He served in the Navy during World War II, stationed in Guam, and after discharge, entered Lehigh University, where he graduated in 1950. Mr. Barthold worked in the transportation department for Bethlehem Steel as a senior statistical analyst from 1950 to 1982. Mr. Barthold was passionate about his connection to Lehigh.

He was the president of his class and served as correspondent for the Class of 1950 for 50 years. Additionally, he served as president and secretary of the Lehigh Home Club, was a member of the Asa Packer Society, was a recipient of Lehigh's Alumni Award, and was the President of the Alpha Tau Omega Alumni Association for over 30 years. He also had an incredible passion for Lehigh sports, particularly wrestling and football. He attended over 50 Lehigh-Lafayette football games and never missed a wrestling match or tournament until his declining health prevented his attendance. Mr.

Barthold spent summers throughout his life at Saylors Lake, where in 1927 his grandfather, F.F. Barthold, built the Saylors Lake Pavilion and developed a cottage colony as well. Mr. Barthold continued to manage the cottage colony until the 1990s when the cottages were sold. His other two passions were the Bethlehem Club, where he served on the Board of Directors for many years, and golf, playing with friends and family at every opportunity.

Survivors: His wife, Carol; three sons, Lee Ill, and his wife Edda of Virginia Beach, VA, Charles L. of Alameda, CA and H. Joseph, Il and his wife Joyce of Scituate, MA, a daughter, Anne L. of Yarmouth, ME and 10 grandchildren. Bethlehem, died Monday, July 10, 2006, at the V.N.A. Hospice of St. Luke's, Bethlehem. Born September 15, 1920, in Turka, Poland, he was the son of the late Andrew and Ann (Lymycz) Springer. He was married to Mary (Zielyk) for 59 years.

Michael was a member of St. Josephat's Ukrainian Catholic Church. He worked for Bethlehem Fabricators as a chainman for 32 years, retiring in 1989. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary, two sons, John Springer, husband of Dianne of Bethlehem Township, and husband Michael, Springer Susan of Kresgeville, and a daughter, Ann Laughlin, wife of Milton of Nashville, two grandchildren, a stepgranddaughter and two greatgrandchildren. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Herman R.

Kurtz and Lena (Pfeninger) Kurtz. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he was confirmed and married to Dorothy Anne Nagle. They celebrated their 55th anniversary in June 1990 and she died March 19, 1991. Valedictorian of the Class of 1925 at Liberty High School, Mr. Kurtz earned his B.S.

degree in industrial engineering with honors from Lehigh University in 1929 and also graduated from the American Institute of Banking, New York City in 1930 3with a degree in international banking. He joined the former Irving Trust Company, New York City, in 1929 and served in various official capacities. He was the Chief Operations Officer, and for a number of years was in charge of the banks' business in the Middle East. He retired in 1973 as Senior Vice President, International Division. Among his activities, Mr.

Kurtz had been President and Director of the American Turkish Society, a Director of the Near East Foundation, and the U.S. Iranian Chamber of Commerce. He traveled extensively both here and throughout 71 countries, and as a result of his life interest in astronomy, made quite a few trips to view solar eclipses of the sun. He was a life member of the Amateur Astronomers Cranford, NJ and a life member of the American Association of Variable Star Observers, Cambridge, MA. For more than a decade he lectured on astronomy in the S.T.S.

(Sharing Talents and Skills) Program with the Westfield, NJ schools system. He also served for 15 years in Sperry Observatory, Cranford, NJ and Union College "open nights" for the public. He organized 70th, 75th, and 80th reunions for the Liberty High School Class of 1925. He set up a fund at Lehigh University to grant an academic merit scholarship for a member of Liberty High graduating class who is in the top 10 and will attend Lehigh University. Survivors: A daughter, Carol Chapman of Edmonds, WA; a son, Ralph Kurtz of Montreat, NC; a brother, Herman J.

Kurtz of Bloomsburg, PA; grandchildren, Scott Chapman, Lisa Hill, Bryan Kurtz, and Debra Lakey; great-grandchildren, Kylie Hill, Jackson Lackey, and Davis Carl Lackey; cousins and caregivers, Joe and Kathryn Kricks; a niece, Susan Reiss; and a nephew, Bob Kurtz. Born in West Rockhill Township, he was the son of the late John E. and Gertrude (Moore) Snyder. He had been employed by the former Royal Pants Factory, Perkasie, and the former Weaver Steel Company, Lansdale, before joining McElhare's Service, Sellersville, where he worked for over 30 years as a mechanic.

He retired in 1999. Rich was a life member of the Sellersville Fire Department, where he was a past assistant chief and trustee, as well as a longtime engineer and truck driver. He helped in the fire company kitchen with bingo, banquets, breakfasts and carnivals. He clocks enjoyed and collecting diecast antique, trucks. Rich loved his antique 1927 Model A Ford, but the joys of his life were his dogs.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps, stationed in England as a radio operator. Ralph enjoyed communicating by Operator with many friends, both locally and abroad. He was a life member of Unami Sportsman Club, VFW Post 2124, and a member of Tri Boro Association of Northampton.
